Reliability Through Simplicity
Built to work. Designed to be understood.
A replacement heat pump has to do more than fit the opening. It needs to operate reliably in an existing building and make sense to the technician who will service it years from now.
Cold Point chooses controls and components for a clear purpose. We use proven approaches to refrigerant metering, compressor protection, temperature sensing, and airflow without adding complexity simply to expand a feature list.
Capillary tubes: a straightforward way to meter refrigerant
The thermostatic expansion valve, or TXV, is one of the most failure-prone components in the refrigerant system. In a replacement application, contamination left in an older system can create service problems for sensitive metering components.
A capillary tube meters refrigerant through a fixed passage. It has no diaphragm, spring, or sensing bulb to adjust or replace. Cold Point selects the metering design for the unit and its intended application, giving the system a simple, consistent way to feed refrigerant.
Why it matters: No moving parts and a straightforward design means fewer service headaches.

Controls without unnecessary layers
More boards and software do not automatically make a replacement unit better. Every added layer can make a fault harder to trace and a repair more involved.
Cold Point uses straightforward control packages suited to the equipment and the building it is replacing. Technicians can follow familiar operating logic, identify components, and troubleshoot without working through functions the application does not need.
Why it matters: Clearer troubleshooting and practical service parts help maintenance teams get equipment back into operation.

Suction accumulators: added compressor protection
A suction accumulator helps keep liquid refrigerant from returning directly to the compressor. That protection is especially useful when a new chassis operates with an existing blower assembly and conditions may differ from a new installation.
Why it matters: Protecting the compressor from liquid floodback supports dependable operation and long service life.
True temperature thermistors: sensing the water itself
Freeze protection depends on understanding what is happening in the water circuit. Cold Point’s true temperature thermistors measure actual water temperature instead of using refrigerant temperature as a stand-in for water conditions.
Why it matters: Direct water temperature sensing gives the controls a better picture of conditions relevant to freeze protection.
Efficient airflow, straightforward operation
Where an EC motor is used, Cold Point favors a configuration that delivers efficient, consistent airflow without requiring multiple control boards or complicated programming.
Why it matters: The motor technology can improve efficiency while keeping operation and service practical.
Simple by design. Reliable in service.
Each of these choices supports the same goal: equipment that performs its job without making installation, operation, or service more complicated than necessary.
That is what Reliability Through Simplicity means at Cold Point. It is an engineering approach built around the people who depend on the equipment and the technicians who keep it running.
